When a man encounters a wall there are two things that happen, either he turns away like most of humanity, or he digs a hole through it and forces his way to the other side. An individual who chose the latter course is Sartaj Singh Pannu, the wall was old school Bollywood, and the outcome is new age cinema… SOCH LO.
Now find out about the man and his movie, that has overcome tremendous odds and even now, battles away to reach it’s ultimate destination…….it’s audience.
Tell us about yourself?
I would like people to tell me about myself, after they see my work.
Your upcoming film, Soch Lo, has been mentioned as depictive of New Age Indian cinema. Tell us something about it?
We might proclaim it is New Age but lets see how it is received. I did not make the film keeping any revolutionary thought process in mind, I made it the way I perceived it.

What got you to LA in the first place?
I started in India , working with Mahesh Bhatt, I worked with him on his first few movies, Manzilen Aur Bhi Hain, Vishwasghat, Lahu Ke Do Rang and Naya Daur. Manzilen was the movie that gave me the opportunity to interact with Kabir Bedi, with whom I became great friends. So Kabir had become a successful star in Europe and was subsequently doing a movie in Latin America. I told Kabir that I was ready to spread my wings. So one fine day I get this telegram from Kabir…he had hooked me up with the production guys here in Latin America. So I was on a plane in a couple of days. That experience was very challenging, I did not speak the language, but being forced into an environment like this forces you to learn enough to communicate with people around you. While I was there I became very good friends with a guy named Salvo Basile. Salvo was the first AD to Sergio Leone. He was in Columbia to work on a Marlon Brando movie. Kabir’s movie was also being shot in Columbia, so there we were.

You made a solid, impressionable debut in Jannat, what did that film accomplis
h for you as a person and as an actor?
Things have changed drastically post the release of Jannat. As an actor it was the best debut I could have ever asked for. I got to learn a lot from Bhattsahab. It instantly established me as an actor as my film was a super hit.
What are your upcoming projects?
There is Owais Hussain’s debut untitled film. ( Owais is MF Hussain’s son) aside from a film down south.
Is it goodbye to modeling for good, or is that something that you still dabble in?
No, not at all. I will continue to model and have been. I recently walked the ramp for Abhishek Dutta in Kolkata Fashion Week. I would even like to endorse products as well, which suit my sensibilities as consumer.
