GOPAL K SINGH- THE AGE OF THE ACTOR EMERGES IN BOLLYWOOD
Amidst all the nepotism, gate keepers and starkids, Bollywood has suddenly begun to throw up new talent and new faces with a remarkable consistency, over the past few years. This trend is now beginning to emerge a lot more, and we as audiences have never felt happier. Talent from across the nation, big and small cities, people who are the first in their respective families to take on the creative business, is now almost becoming a norm. They still have to struggle four times as hard, not only to overcome old school Bollywood, but also the barriers that are put between them and an audience, more than willing to see them perform. One such talent is, Gopal . K. Singh. Here we catch up with this fine actor.
A little about yourself and what got you into acting?
I was born and brought up in a very small town in Chhattisgarh (Chirimiri).Growing up I used to watch road side screening of films. From then on I decided I wanted to associate myself with cinema. So that journey has brought me here.
Traffic Signal, how did that come about and what was it like working with Madhur?
I was destined to work with Madhurji ! It started with Page 3, and grew to Traffic Signal. Working with Madhurji was a pleasure, his brilliance as a Director explored and nurtured my confidence and capabilities to perform with maximum potency, required of the character in Traffic Signal.
Talk a little about your upcoming projects?
Releasing on the 19th of November is my film Shaharukh Bola Khubasurat Hai Tu. Representing meaningful cinema, it is an entertaining film by the very dynamic Makarand Deshpandey.
My upcoming films are:1) Bhindi Bazaar Inc, a film on a pickpocket by the upcoming and very talented director Ankush Bhatt. In it I am playing a very significant character.
2) Palchin, a socially relevant film, in which I m playing the main antagonist.
3) PEN, a film for children by Situ Sahoo.
4) Also currently shooting for an unnamed NFDC film with a very inspiring subject.
Film, theater or television, which is your preference?
In the process of expressing myself as an actor I thoroughly enjoyed the energy of Delhi theatre and shifted to Mumbai only for films, so now am concentrating on that medium.
On making it in the Mumbai film industry, if you don’t come from a filmi family?
My forte is my talent as an actor and I believe even an actor from a filmi family has to have proof of their talent. I am sure that the greatness of this industry is manifest in recognizing my talents as an actor and accepting me.
