TIFF – Toronto, September 11, 2012 — 7 Boxes, a Toronto Discovery Section World Premiere, has been sold to Arrow Films for release in the UK/Ireland. A theatrical release is planned for summer of next year.
The film, co-directed by Paraguayan-based filmmakers Juan Carlos Maneglia and Tana Schémbori, is an action/thriller about a teenage delivery boy in a low-income Paraguayan market who must transport a load of mysterious and dangerous boxes to the edge of town.
Deal was negotiated by Shoreline Entertainment, who are handling worldwide sales.
Shoreline VP Sales Brian Sweet and EVP Sam Eigen negotiated the deal with Tom Stewart, Head of Acquisitions for Arrow Films. Interest from distributors in other territories has been brisk, and additional deals are expected to conclude shortly.
“We are very excited that 7 Boxes will be released by Arrow in the UK and Ireland. The film will be perfectly at home in Arrow’s diverse lineup of quality genre and world cinema titles,” said Sweet.
“Arrow films is hugely excited to be bringing this highly original and smart crowd pleaser to the UK and Ireland in 2013, and to be working once again with Shoreline Entertainment,” said Stewart.
The film opened in Asunción, Paraguay in August to record box office levels, and has screened several times in Toronto, with an additional public screening this Sunday. The film plays next in the prestigious New Directors section of the San Sebastian Festival at the end of September.
Shoreline is also representing TIFF Indian romantic actioner Ishaqzaade: Born to Hate … Destined to Love, directed by Habib Faisal.
