The Preacher’s Daughter opens the festival
Written and directed by Michelle Mower, starring Andrea Bowen and Adam Mayfield.
Winner of Best Feature Film at St Tropez International Film Festival.
Synopsis: “The Preacher’s Daughter” is the story of Hannah White, the estranged daughter of a small town minister who is forced to return to the strict, religious home of her youth where she must confront the troubled relationships that caused her to leave four years before.
The Preacher’s Daughter achieved distribution before production wrapped and went on to bring in the highest ratings for Lifetime Movie Network in 2012. Michelle, the film’s director and writer is excited to have the “Preacher’s Daughter” on the festival circuit in Europe.
Maitrey Kulkarni at the screening of Surkhaab
Great audience in the screening room continues for the screening of Surkhaab at 3.30pm. Maitrey Kulkarni representative of the ambassador of the Indian Embassy in Madrid attended the screening in support of the Indo-Canadian feature. Mr Kulkarni noted that he was delighted to be at the festival to support Surkhaab and that he thoroughly enjoyed the screening. The screening of three times nominated Surkhaab was met with applause at the MIFF festival and Mr Kulkarni along with filmmakers in the audience paid tribute to the feature.
Synopsis: An illegal immigrant and a carrier who is on the run in a world alien from her. An exposure to the parallel world that exists in developed countries. A week in the life of a human being trafficked.
‘Meet and Greet’ evening to open the festival
Great turn out from all the filmmakers that arrived today! Exciting moment to witness as filmmakers and scriptwriters get acquainted and learn about one another’s projects – potential for future co-productions?!? Watch this space!!!
There was a great atmosphere in the Bar of the Hotel Praga as filmmakers chatted and drummed up support for their movies and scripts. Brad Blain and Neil McEwan were chatting to filmmakers about upcoming screenings and giving feedback and advice to those filmmakers already screened.
All in all a great first day to the festival and we look forward to welcoming more filmmakers to Madrid tomorrow! Day 2 of the festival sees screening open with Eternity, written and directed by Alex Galvin and followed by an exciting selection of shorts and features!
