Ever since Oye Lucky, Manu Rishi, the actor, has given one fine performance after another. Manu Rishi, the writer, too has been winning awards, since that time. Here we talk to the actor, on his next film, WHAT THE FISH, which is releasing on Dec 13, 2013.
What is your role in What The Fish?
I play this Playboy/Casanova/Funny Slimeball combination. The great part, I always have two women with me, which has never happened to me before in Hindi films. I am part of this set of characters, who are real but each has strong characteristics.
What was it being directed by Gurmmeet?
Gurmmeet is this nice, easy going, guy, but don’t let that fool you, the moment you start slipping even an inch while performing, he is all alert and will point that out to you right away. He knows his craft very well and is always in constant touch with the surrounding. The comfort factor that he brings to the set , is what makes the whole process so much fun, not only to make, but even in the outcome.
Has the film turned out per your expectations?
Absolutely. Even watching it, despite being a part of it, wearing the audience cap, we can’t but get totally taken into the ride. I think the audience is in for a treat, with some surprise punches thrown in.
A brilliant performance, in Life Ki To Lag Gaye, but the film did not quite take off?
Yes, the praise for that performance came not only from the audience, but also the critics and fellow actors. I remember fellow actor, Vinay Pathak, sending me a very nice SMS, on seeing my performance. Feel bad that the film did not quite get its due.
A5) There is Anirudh Chautala’s DEMOCRACY PVT LTD and also EKEES TOPON KI SALAMI, which explores a father and son relationship and Anupam Kher plays my father. Both of these are very interesting and diverse films, presenting me in a very different light.
