NANAK SHAH FAKIR – MADE IN INDIA BUT MADE FOR THE WORLD

Every so often a film comes out of India, which is meant for an audience that is global. In the past we have had films such as Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Salaam Bombay, Lagaan, Mother India and this year could see one more, Nank Shah Fakir, the film on one of the most influential persons of the last few hundred years. What makes this film, directed by Sartaj Singh Pannu (who made his directorial debut with Soch Lo), is the amount of painstaking research and the attention to the larger than life characterizations of a larger than life human being, who touched, and continues to touch, countless lives.
The film, produced by Harinder Sikka, has the involvement of Oscar winner, Resul Pookutty as a Co producer and music by Uttam Singh (Dil To Pagal Hain). The principal cast includes, , Adil Hussain (Life of Pi) and National Award winner, Arif Zakaria, Manav Kaul, Darshan Dave and seasoned veteran Tom Alter, amongst others.
Finnish musician Tuomas Kantelinen, who composed music for The Legend of Hercules has rendered the background score . The film was one of the “noise makers” in the Cannes Market 2014.
Sartaj is Mumbai based filmmaker, directed, scripted and produced his first Hindi film “SOCH LO ‘ which was independently released WORLDWIDE in 2010-2011
It did receive a very favorable reviews in the West, probably the only Indian film to premier in PARAMOUNT STUDIOS ( LA )
Sartaj, started shooting nanak shah fakir in November of 2012, it was the first attempt to make an International film on Sikh History with a comprehensive production budget
The biggest challenge was to make a Semi-Biopic on Guru Nanak with indigenous talent, without showing the Guru in flesh and blood yet making him omnipresent in the film , with use of Technology/ Prosthetic/VFX/CG
NANAK SHAH FAKIR’ is a 14th century, Pre- Mogul era period HINDI film based on Life and Teachings of Guru Nanak,. It was shot across Leh, , Himachal, Assam, Maharashtra , Odisa , Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bombay in many schedules on massive scale, sets , costumes, wars sequences, encapsulating the essence of Sikhism and Guru Nanak’s travels. The full length live action feature film which will be releasing end of this year –
IN PUNJAB the film was shot in (MULLANPUR-Ropar district, CHANDIGARH, BEAS, and in GOINDWAL
The film has Shabdh, which are composed by Sardar Uttam Singh, and sung by Padamshri Sardar Nirmal Singh Khalsa, the world famous Ragi singer from the Golden Temple , Amritsar.
