Writer and Director: Sunny Deol
The 90’s have given way to 2016’s and India has become more modern, but the big city continues to have its problems with crime and the criminal so to counter that, Ajay Mehra (Sunny Deol) is required once more. A sequel in the true sense, in that it takes clippings from the old version, to establish the continuity.
However, the times have moved much faster than our hero and his methods. The punch is no longer a valid weapon in the art of war, so that seems more than a little outdated. We also have a hero who looks more than old, especially when pitted opposite an actress who only made her debut in the next generation.
But there are some different shades in this film, which are refreshing. Hence we have the main bad antagonist, who has an even meaner son and their face off is about as interesting as that between the protagonist and antagonist.
The hero also has to deal with inner demons, literally, in the form of failing health, which go well with his age. Also the whole vulnerability of the characters make it compelling.
Add to that a couple of pulsating chase sequences and no songs to slow down the pace, for the most part, and we do have a reasonable first time watch.
Watch it once, if not more to get a glimpse of an era gone by.
