Fan is a story of obsessive behavior of the Delhi mind. Any observer of Indian cinema and its heartthrobs will quickly realize that the real industry is in Mumbai, but the real fans are in Delhi. Maybe because it is not very often that one crosses the paths of actors in Delhi and also it is quite often that the actors that rule Mumbai, trace their origins to Delhi.
Set in this back drop, it is the story into the mind of one such Fan of one such Superstar, enacted by the same actor, one with VFX and one original.
It is also the story of people who live with passion and live on the edge. When they go over that edge and leave behind the land of the living, is not something that most can decipher or deal with, except the mind that is gone over.
This film brings back Shah Rukh in vintage form. As the obsessive and also as the one who is being stalked. Surprisingly both have a Delhi Deewanapan in them, which makes them quite similar in reaction to one another. It is the story of the self made actor and the self created Fan, told from a Fan’s point of view.
The catch phrase is the dialogue by the Fan who says to the actor, in crucial junctures, “You will not understand.”
It has often been said that there is a thin line between intense love and intense dislike. The intensity is the same. This pretty much sums up the film. The acting is awesome, having no songs does not take away from the film and the pace keeps pace with the audience expectation.
You don’t get bored in this one. See it for the entertainment and see it for the love of the classic story of the boy from Delhi who made it big in Mumbai, but then started another story…
