This is the surprise packet of 2016. A fun filled, light hearted journey. Don’t take yourself too seriously and you will enjoy this one. Yet it is not slapstick.
A comedy of errors with some fine acting and characterization. Jimmy Shergill today is India’s finest actor. He is also the one who rarely gets the girl in the end. Both these trends continue and both of these also make the film, and his character, very endearing, regular and likeable.
AbhayDeol impresses as he sticks to his character and the performances are only enhanced by Diana Penty, Ashu Sharma, Kanwaljeet and the surprise Pakistani elements, Javed Sheikh and Momal Sheikh. As if all of these are not enough, other actors like Piyush Mishra and Ali Faisal also rise to the occasion and we have a “talent filled film.”
Sit back and enjoy this with the family, right till the end, meaning the ending song by Mika, as the credits roll.
The pacing is just correct and at no instance does it feel that this is a forced comedy. There are also dramatic and emotional moments, yet the film stays true to its inherently comic nature.
The songs are few but solid and as the film moves between middle class Lahore and middle class Amritsar, there is also a realization that at the people to people level, not much is different between, India and Pakistan, or certainly Amritsar and Lahore.
Go watch this to recharge your batteries and to step back and see what healthy entertainment should be.
